Meet John G.! He’s teamed up with instructor Mirena as part of Game-U’s New York Accelerate program. John’s a big time Mario fan, so he and Mirena decided to tackle a Mario-style platformer game in Project Spark. Check out their work!
First things first – a Mario-style game needs a Mario character. John’s got mad skills in Project Spark’s Character Studio! He used one of Project Spark’s default characters – Tediz – as a base, much like Luke did for his Jedi knight, and customized Tediz’s attachments and appearance to fit Mario. Then he and Mirena worked together to create a player path of giant, red mushrooms, each one strewn with coin collectibles. (Never pass up the chance to collect points!) John didn’t make the path easy to follow. To reach the key at the end of the path, Mario must navigate some tricky jumps as well as a special, sinking orange mushroom. Once Mario does manage to collect the key, he teleports to a gate which opens in response to the key. Mario’s quest is well on its way!
Cool stuff here, John. You and Mirena clearly have plans for Mario! Keep in touch – we’re excited to see where Mario’s quest takes him, and we’re especially excited to see where game design takes you. Game on, John!
