Games Gallery: December 2020
We’re ending the year in style – and with games! (I know, I know, but it’s kind of in the name.) The games, in this instance, are brought to you by Game-U (see? In the name.) and Mrs. Rebecca’s Kids.Coders.
Okay, so you know how DVD screensavers used to bounce all around the screen and change color each time they hit an edge? And the obsession – successfully and relatably memed – of waiting for the little icon to hit the corner instead of just an edge? (Been there. Did that. Saw it happen, like, once. It’s a highlight.) This month, we brought back that feeling, with a special Python/Pygame lesson, to help the kids code their own little bouncing screensaver! They moved fast – plowing through 40 lines of code, tackling bugs (kudos to Angie, who solved one all by herself!), and even completing the challenge of creating and adding their own custom sprites – all in one class.
(Side note: These sprites. Are. Adorable. Check out Cayla’s Baby Yoda sprite! She plans on going even further and making more sprites to animate him. Awwww!)
(Additional side note: And now they all want to be animators when they grow up! Gianmichael and Alex both now harbor matching ambitions for the prestigious career. We’re with you all the way, kiddos!)
Play their screensaver projects yourself! (Just tear yourself away after an hour, if you can. Otherwise we’ve got to make a new meme.)
Don’t forget to check them out!
