Remember Robert? He created that cool snowman-building game as part of Game-U’s Accelerate program. He and his instructor Erica are at it again – this time coming up with a NYC lookalike world, complete with Times Square and the ball drop!
Erica’s got Robert working towards completing the Timekeeper achievement in Project Spark. To become acquainted with timer controls and logic, Robert started a world from scratch and used props to recreate New York City and Times Square. The Square’s always packed on New Year’s Eve, so he added a big crowd of cheering characters, too. His finishing touch? The famous ball! Robert used the Project Spark disco ball prop to get the right effect. He placed it above the ground and Koded it to lower gradually when the game starts. Watch the countdown in the top right corner! Robert Koded that too. It’s synchronized to the ball so that each time the countdown decrements, the ball drops another unit. Once the ball touches the ground and the counter hits zero, fireworks effects play in the background – just like on New Year’s Eve! Cue the cheering! Robert even Koded “2018” to display on the top center of the screen once the fireworks begin.
What an awesome way to learn about timers, countdowns, and controlling logic, Robert! Thanks for sharing your work with us and giving us the chance to relive the 2018 ball drop. Keep in touch! We’re expecting big things from 2018, and we don’t doubt that you’re one of them.
