Meet Kaleigh! She’s working with instructor Mike M. as part of Game-U’s New York Accelerate program. Kaleigh’s new to computers and game design, but that doesn’t keep her from building cool things right from the start. Check out her land of giants!
When Kaleigh first started classes with Mike M., she had trouble even using her mouse. A new mouse and a little help from Mike M. quickly overcame her initial challenges, however, giving Mike M. the chance to introduce her to Project Spark. Project Spark is a graphic-based 3D game design application, which offers visual feedback on all of its controls and uses drag-and-drop Kode tiles to ease users into the fundamentals of programming, so it’s perfect for a beginner like Kaleigh. Together, Kaleigh and Mike M. practiced a variety of skills to build a Project Spark world of giants. Material selection, painting, menu navigation, prop placement, copy-paste, and scaling all came together to produce her current project. Kaleigh even practiced typing when she saved her level all on her own. Now, her player can explore a land of giants – and thanks to the video, so can we!
Awesome work, Kaleigh! You’re off to a great start. Don’t be surprised at how quickly “giant” challenges shrink down to ordinary size as you keep coming to classes. We’re excited to show you the world of game design!
