Remember Nicholas? He teamed up with instructor Mike M. as part of our Accelerate program here at Game-U. When we last heard from Nicholas, he built an awesome 3D platformer game with checkpoints, flags, enemies – the works! But Nicholas must watch the show Ninja Warriors, because he’s modified the game to be worthy of a Ninja Warrior challenge. Check out of the video! Now the platforms move up and down, like elevators, so that the jumping player (Flynn Rider, we nicknamed him) has to leap with care if he doesn’t want to fall in the water. Nicholas and Mike made the platforms move by putting a timer in each “brain” (in Project Spark, the brain of an object holds all the computer code that relates to that object). The timer tells the computer when to enact other code that tells the platforms to move up or down. But moving platforms aren’t Flynn’s only challenge! Thanks to Nicholas’ other modifications, a successful game also means defeating a new enemy. Challenges have their rewards, however, so the checkpoint flags (remember those checkpoints?) now celebrate – by bobbing up and down – when Flynn makes it to the stable platforms. Great work, Nicholas! Let us know when this Ninja Platformer game is ready to play!
