Solar Spin
Alisha H.’s newest project is out of this world – literally! Alisha’s been working in Blender, practicing 3D animation; with instructor Dan’s help, she created and animated this 3D model of the solar system in fewer than three classes.
Alisha started with the Sun at the center of the arrangement, and proceeded to make and place every planet in order, using simple spheres and editing their size and color to match the correct bodies. She even added a small satellite sphere for Earth’s moon, and a ring for Saturn. Once all of the details were in place, Alisha moved on to animate their dance around the Sun, going so far as to carefully calculate their movements based on the time each planet takes to complete one rotation around the sun (e.g., each planet’s “year”). For the final touch, she added the main asteroid belt between Mars’ and Jupiter’s orbits, using Blender’s Array and Curve modifiers.
Stellar work, Alisha – pun intended!
