Built by Game Developers, Designed for Students: Meet the Mentors Behind GameU
GameU May 27, 2025At GameU, we believe students should learn from the very best, and that means instructors with real-world experience across every aspect of game design. From coding and environment art to animation and beyond, our team is made up of professionals who have worked across the game development spectrum.
Our instructors have contributed to projects at both indie studios and top-tier companies like Activision, Microsoft, LucasArts, EA, BioWare, Riot Games, and Nickelodeon. They’ve worked on titles like League of Legends, Star Wars, Medal of Honor, X-Men 3: The Official Game, Test Drive: Off-Road 3, and countless others.
What truly sets our instructors apart isn’t just their impressive resumes; it’s their shared passion for teaching. Every instructor at GameU receives ongoing training to stay updated with industry trends and educational best practices. More importantly, they know how to inspire, support, and connect with students.
Let’s transform screen time into skill-building.

Adam: From Code in Space to Inspiring the Next Generation
“The important thing is to foster that learning with something they love,” says Adam, a GameU instructor and game industry veteran with over 20 years of experience. “You’re crafting their passion—and we shift it into STEAM lessons, we shift it into learning opportunities.”
Adam’s career has taken him to major studios like Mythic Entertainment, BioWare, and EA Games. But what is one of his proudest accomplishments? “I worked on the Orion spacecraft. So I have code that is in space,” he shares with a smile. “That’s my go-to. When someone asks what I’m proud of, it’s that.”
Now, Adam channels that same passion into his teaching at GameU. “I love the environment here. I love what we’re doing,” he says. “I love the idea of passing on what I’ve learned to younger generations. You see their eyes light up and they say, ‘I can do that?!’ And I get to say, ‘Yes, you can. And we’re going to show you how.”

Jason: Future-Proofing the Next Generation of Game Developers
Like Adam, Jason brings over two decades of game development experience to the GameU classroom. He has worked with companies such as Sierra Entertainment, DreamWorks, EA, and Riot Games, contributing to titles including Medal of Honor, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, League of Legends, and the indie project Exultant Games, created alongside GameU founder Mike Kawas.
“I joined GameU as a way to give back,” Jason explains. “I’ve been making games for a long time, but I really wanted to give the next generation of developers a head start.”
With years of experience watching technology evolve, Jason focuses on teaching concepts that aren’t tied to a single tool or platform. “I teach things in a way that’s future-proof, so they can adapt no matter where the industry goes.”
And the impact is clear. Many of Jason’s students have gone on to pursue game design in college, some even helping teach their peers thanks to the strong foundation they gained at GameU. “I feel like I’ve done something that’s going to outlast me—and them,” he says. “We’re all in this together, trying to build a better future.”

Jasmine: Making Learning Personal Through Roblox & Beyond
Roblox isn’t just a game —it’s a powerful tool for learning game design. And no one turns play into purpose quite like Jasmine Shah.
Skilled in coding, VR design, and programming, Jasmine is one of GameU’s curriculum creators and an instructor for our Roblox classes.
“My goal with teaching, something that a lot of people don’t say but “it’s OK to fail.” she explains. “You can cry about it, you can be upset about it—but the next day, you take that experience, learn from it, and move forward.”
With thousands of hours spent teaching everyone from complete beginners to aspiring designers, Jasmine has a gift for meeting students where they are and helping them grow. “One of my students was going through a tough time at home,” she recalled, “but his parent texted to say these classes have helped him grow both behaviorally and emotionally.” Jasmine smiled as she reflected on the moment.
Jasmine’s approach is rooted in empathy and connection. “We’re here to be a positive presence in their lives,” she says. “We want to be that fun person who teaches them something they’re excited about. So, it’s really important to be their friend.”
