GameU Students Share Their Achievements
In 10+ years, thousands of GameU students have built video games, animated stories, created digital artwork, coded websites, and so much more. But beyond building technical skills, these students have grown into confident creators, problem-solvers, and future industry professionals.
Students like Cayla, who has been with GameU for over seven years and is now pursuing a career in software engineering. Or Joseph, who started at GameU as a student and is now an instructor. And Luke, who’s developed resilience that saw him win an animation award at the Wexley Center. Listen to their stories below.
Do these sound like goals you’d love to see your student achieve? Schedule a meeting with our Enrollment Services Team today, or sign your student up for a free, no-obligation introductory class to get started!
From Beginner to Leader: Cayla’s Journey
“At school, through all of the software engineering and computer classes I was taking, I was helping other students because I already knew how to do everything,” said Cayla.
Now in high school, Cayla has taken a wide range of STEAM courses — from coding to game design — shaping her path toward a future in software engineering. What started as a passion at age seven has grown into a competitive advantage, putting her ahead of her peers and giving her the confidence to pursue her dream career.
Joseph's GameU Journey: From Student to Instructor
“I first found GameU when I was in middle school and I started taking classes there. And that’s where I learned that I love game design and wanted to do that for the rest of my life.” Says Joseph, one of GameU’s 100+ instructors.
Before joining GameU, Joseph had no prior experience in game design. Now, a decade later, he’s come full circle—teaching and inspiring the next generation of creators at the very place where his own journey began. With over ten years of experience in 3D modeling and game design, Joseph has earned accolades in global game jams and contributed to projects such as Taxes on Virtue, Beneath the Badlands, and Carved in Stone.
Luke’s Award-Winning Animation
“I had a bunch of ideas in my head that I wanted to get out — stories I wanted to create,” said Luke, an animation student at GameU.
His mother, Lisa, reflected on his journey: “When he was younger, he had a really low frustration level and would just want to quit. But at GameU, because of the nature of the beast, he learned that you try and you try again.”
That perseverance paid off. In 2024, Luke won an award at the prestigious Wexley Center in Columbus, Ohio, for his animation CatBunny. Competing against college students and professional animators, Luke — still in high school — proved that talent, hard work, and passion can break barriers.
When asked about his future, Luke’s answer was simple, but powerful: “I want to be an artist. I just want to do something that can be seen.”
Just the Beginning
These three student stories are just a glimpse of the incredible journeys happening at GameU. Every student who walks through our doors is not just learning skills — they are building futures. Whether they dream of becoming software engineers, game designers, or award-winning artists, GameU is more than a program. It’s a launchpad for what’s next.
