GameU demonstrates how to engage students in STEAM learning with school video game design programs at NYC’s inaugural Video Game Festival, Saturday, May 31
Flemington, NJ. May 29, 2025: GameU – the leading provider of premium online video game design courses – is exhibiting at the 2025 NYC Video Game Festival, taking place this Saturday, May 31, at Convene Brookfield Place (225 Liberty Street, New York, NY).
As part of this sold-out celebration of New York City’s digital games community, GameU will present an educator-focused session on Engaging Students in STEAM with Video Game Design, 12:30 – 1:15 PM EST in the HubSpace breakout area (VGFLICKS, Hub1). GameU will interview representatives from Thomas A. Edison Career & Technical Education (CTE) High School during the session, discussing the challenges, impacts, and outcomes of implementing the school’s video game design program in partnership with GameU.
“Educators understand the benefits of exploring STEAM subjects through an integrated lens,” said GameU Founder and CEO, Mike Kawas. “But, combining these concepts in a teachable format is hard. GameU’s presentation demonstrates how game design provides an ideal, practical vehicle for exploring integrated STEAM disciplines, using real-world examples from leading technology schools, such as Thomas Edison CTE High School.
“With 85 percent of US teens playing video games recreationally, introducing game design to CTE curriculums can transform students’ love of gaming into vital STEAM skills.”
GameU will also exhibit at the event at Booth #47 on the first floor, showcasing games created by students and offering exclusive game design giveaways for both families and school professionals.
Organized by the NYC Mayor’s office of Media & Entertainment, the one-day festival brings together prominent voices in the game development and EdTech sectors. The event includes esports competitions, arcades, interactive demos, and more.
