Pioneer Video Game Design, Coding & Minecraft Modding

Get your start creating full-length, 2-D side-scrolling adventures, space shoot-em-ups, puzzle games, and more on pro game tools! Students use editors like GameMaker and Construct 2 as they study the fundamentals of game design, computer programming, and pixel art with the option to publish their games for iOS, Android, or web browsers. Your only limit is your imagination!

Pioneer students will also learn to program in Java with Minecraft. Students get hands-on experience creating unique items, blocks, and creatures in this introductory class on computer programming. With no prerequisites, beginners start typing code and creating their own game “mods” (modifications) in the first lesson.

Pioneer Robo (Mindstorms EV3)

Learn Engineering and Robotics skills through hands on experiences with the Lego Mindstorms EV3 system. Participants will create robots and learn programing basics. After learning the basics participants will work in small groups to overcome engineering design challenges. The challenges will help build key life skills of cooperation and critical thinking while also developing engineering understanding using  problem solving skills and the design process. Challenges will be varied to meet the needs of all learners and interest levels.

Digital Art

Take your art to new realms! Game-U’s Digital Art class teaches young artists how to use digital mediums to bring their creative vision to life. Using powerful software like Gimp and Krita, students create graphic design projects, edit digital media, draw characters, game art, and landscapes, and study professional techniques designed to improve their skills.

Creative Writing

Every game needs a great story! Game-U’s Creative Writing program students study narrative principles, character development, plot design, and writing style while exercising their imaginations. Students practice how to develop the lore behind a game with fun writing prompts, team-based brainstorming sessions, storyboarding, and personal writing projects.
